Blue #1
Monochromatic dressing is one of my go-to’s, especially with chambray tones or black. The key to pulling off monochrome is to vary textures within your outfit. Incorporating a layer into your look is an easy way to achieve this. For Fall/Winter monochrome, try adding a textural sweater or scarf and in the Spring/Summer you can add a vest. The idea here is to break up the block of color to give your outfit depth, variation, and ultimately visual interest.
For advanced monochromatic dressing, you can try marrying different patterns together. One of my favorites right now is to blend different polka dot patterns together. Or, ease yourself into patterns by doing something simple like a patterned top underneath a sweater.
I also find its best with monochromatic outfits to balance your silhouettes. So if I wear wide-legged trousers then I’ll opt for a fitted top. And if I wear skinny pants then I can pair it with a boxy or oversized top.
My final tip for monochromatic dressing is to accessorize with contrasting jewelry and/or handbags. This supports the first idea of breaking up your color block. With dark colors, I’m partial to yellow gold jewelry and a camel or nude purse.
